How our coaches teach

Cue, Don't Tell

Our coaches don't hand over the answer. They ask the right question at the right time, so your child works it out and the learning sticks. Here's what that can sound like.

“The story says she hovered at the classroom door. What do you picture her doing?”

Coach asks instead of explaining the word.

“Standing there… not sure if she should go in?”

Child works out the meaning from the scene.

“What in the story tells you she wasn't sure?”

Coach cues your child to find the evidence.

“It's her first day at a new school. She hovered because she was nervous to walk in.”

Child explains, and uses the new word.

Questions About Our Coaches

How are Cueword coaches chosen?

Only the top 1% of applicants make it through our rigorous screening. Every coach is a licensed teacher or a TEFL/TESOL-certified coach, trained on the Cueword method before their first class, and the training keeps going for as long as they teach with us.

How is my child matched with a coach?

It starts with the free Cueword evaluation, run one-on-one by a Cueword specialist (not necessarily your child's coach). Once you enroll, we match your child with a coach within 72 hours, based on the strengths and growth areas the evaluation found. We also consider any requests you share with us. Your child then keeps that coach all term.

Will my child have the same coach every class?

Yes. One coach teaches your child for the whole term: two live one-on-one classes a week for about three months, and they stay with that coach into the next term. If a coach ever can't make a class, they'll tell you beforehand, and you aren't charged for it.

What if my child doesn't connect with their coach?

We match carefully, but if it isn't the right fit, write to us at hello@cueword.com and we'll move your child to another coach.

Can coaches teach in our time zone?

Yes. We teach across every time zone in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman. The Cueword Parent app shows every class in your own timezone.
